How do we know that God's sovereignty is evident in the story of Pharaoh?

Answered in 1 source

God's sovereignty is evident as He raised Pharaoh up to fulfill His purpose of demonstrating power and mercy.

The sovereignty of God is clearly illustrated in the story of Pharaoh's hardening heart. In Romans 9:16, the Apostle Paul echoes the truth found in Exodus when he states, 'It is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.' This highlights that it is God's prerogative to have mercy on whom He wishes and harden whom He wills. Pharaoh's refusal to let the Israelites go is not just a personal decision; it is part of God’s sovereign plan to show His power and declare His name. Thus, God's sovereignty is an integral aspect of this biblical account, teaching us that nothing occurs outside of His divine will.
