How do we know that God saves those with a contrite spirit?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible affirms that God shows mercy to those who are contrite and acknowledges their need for salvation (Isaiah 66:2).

God’s Word illustrates that He is drawn to those who are humble and aware of their sinfulness. As stated in Isaiah 66:2, 'To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.' The genuine recognition of one’s inability to earn salvation fosters a spirit of repentance that God honors. True contrition leads to reliance on the grace of God provided in Christ, who bore our sins perfectly and empathized with the depth of our transgressions.
