How do we know that God sends delusions?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible affirms that God sends strong delusions as part of His sovereign will to judge those who reject the truth.

In 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12, the Apostle Paul explicitly states that 'for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.' This indicates a divine orchestration where God actively gives over individuals to their false beliefs as a consequence of their rejection of the truth. Such actions are rooted in His sovereign purpose and are also seen in the Old Testament, where God deceives certain prophets and leaders to bring about judgment (Ezekiel 14:9). John Gill notes that this process, viewed from a Reformed perspective, highlights God's authority over both the deceived and the deceiver. This doctrine underscores the seriousness of rejecting God’s truth and reveals the extent of divine judgment exercised in the world.
