How do we know that God wants us to be generous?

Answered in 1 source

God’s desire for our generosity is evident in His Word, as He calls us to give from the heart, not under compulsion.

In 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul states, 'Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.' This verse illustrates that God does not impose a legalistic formula for giving but encourages generosity that flows from a willing heart, motivated by love. The overarching principle of generosity is exemplified in Christ, who, out of His love, gave everything for humanity. Therefore, believers are called to reflect this same love and grace in their giving.
