How do we know that God works in us?

Answered in 2 sources

We know God works in us as we actively live out our salvation with fear and trembling, which shows His Spirit at work within.

The assurance that God works in us is evidenced by our genuine efforts to live out our salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12-13 urges us to work out our own salvation because it is God who works in us to will and to act according to His purpose. This dual reality reflects the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of believers, demonstrating that as we pursue holiness and obedience in a humble manner, it is actually God empowering us through His Spirit. The willingness to examine our lives and align them with God's Word is an indication of His presence and activity in us.
