How do we know that grace and good works are connected?

Answered in 1 source

Grace and good works are fundamentally connected as the outgrowth of true faith in a believer's life.

Grace is the unmerited favor of God toward His elect, resulting in salvation that transforms a person’s heart and desires. Good works are the natural and necessary evidence of God's grace acting within a believer. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches that believers' good works should shine before others, not for self-glorification but to glorify God. A true believer understands that their good works do not earn salvation but are a response to the grace they have received. This understanding reinforces the Reformed perspective that while works are not the basis for salvation, they are the fruits that evidence genuine faith and regeneration (James 2:17).
