How do we know that grace and works cannot coexist?

Answered in 1 source

Romans 11:6 asserts that grace and works are mutually exclusive; if it is by grace, it is not works, and vice versa.

In Romans 11:6, Paul states that if salvation is by grace, it cannot be combined with works; otherwise, grace ceases to be grace. This vital distinction shows that any attempt to mix works with grace contaminates the pure essence of God’s grace. The natural inclination to contribute to our salvation with works undermines the very foundation of grace, as salvation is a divine act that excludes any human merit. This theological principle is crucial for understanding the true nature of divine grace and the necessity of faith in Christ alone.
