How do we know that grace can overcome sin?

Answered in 1 source

We know grace can overcome sin because God's Word, particularly in Romans 5:20, reassures us that grace abounds where sin increases.

The assurance that grace can overcome sin is rooted in the very nature of God and His revelation in Scripture. Romans 5:20 states, 'Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.' This emphasizes that God's grace is not only sufficient but superabundant in addressing human sin. When a sinner is made aware of their transgression through the law, that realization is met with the greater truth of God’s grace, which offers forgiveness and transformation through faith in Christ. This is a beautiful portrait of God’s redemptive work throughout history.
