How do we know that grace is effectual?

Answered in 1 source

We know grace is effectual because it brings about the intended results, such as justification and perseverance in the faith.

The effectual nature of God's grace is evidenced by its transformative power in the life of the believer. Scriptures affirm that God's grace does not merely offer assistance; it actively works to accomplish God's will. For instance, in Ephesians 2:5, we are 'made alive together with Christ' by grace, indicating that grace has the power to regenerate and bring spiritual life. Moreover, as seen in Romans 5:20-21, 'where sin abounded, grace did much more abound,' demonstrating that grace reigns over sin and leads to eternal life. The assurance given in John 10:28-29 illustrates that those who receive this grace will never perish, confirming its effectiveness. Therefore, true grace guarantees not only salvation but also sustained faith.
