How do we know that grace precedes our faith?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture indicates that God's grace acts first, enabling us to believe (2 Timothy 1:9).

In sovereign grace theology, before any human action takes place, God's grace is already at work in an individual's life. This is supported by scriptures such as 2 Timothy 1:9, which states that God 'hath saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.' This shows that our calling and salvation are not based on our works but entirely on God’s grace that predates our faith. Thus, faith itself is a response to the grace that has already been bestowed upon us, affirming that we can do nothing to earn or initiate our salvation.
