How do we know that imputation is true in the context of salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Imputation is affirmed in Scripture where it states that Christ was made sin for us and believers are made the righteousness of God in Him.

The doctrine of imputation teaches that our sins are not imputed to us because they were laid on Christ, who knew no sin. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21, He was made to be sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. This means that, for those in Christ, their sins are not recorded against them, allowing for a just standing before God. This is echoed in Romans 4:5, where God justifies the ungodly through faith, further emphasizing that righteousness is imputed rather than earned through works.
