How do we know that Jesus is our atonement?

Answered in 2 sources

Jesus is recognized as our atonement through His sacrificial death and the fulfillment of Old Testament typology, particularly represented by the brazen altar.

The Old Testament sacrificial system served as a foreshadowing of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. Jesus’ death on the cross is viewed as the perfect atonement, aligning with the brazen altar's precedent requiring a sacrifice for the remission of sins. Romans 3:25 mentions that God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement. As the brazen altar was essential for sacrifices, so was Christ essential for our reconciliation to God, fulfilling God's justice and grace. This fulfillment is crucial, emphasizing that through His blood, we obtain forgiveness and access to God (Ephesians 1:7).
