How do we know that Jesus shows mercy?

The account in Mark 9 serves as a powerful example of Jesus' mercy. When the father of the afflicted boy approaches Jesus, he acknowledges his own unbelief but still seeks Jesus' help, saying, 'Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.'
