How do we know that Jesus took our place on the cross?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture affirms that Christ died for our sins and that God placed our iniquities on Him.

The doctrine of Christ's substitution is clearly outlined in Scripture, where we see God declaring in Isaiah 53:6 that He laid the iniquity of us all on Christ. This teaching is reinforced in 2 Corinthians 5:21, which says, 'For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' The New Testament consistently portrays Christ's sacrifice as one that satisfies divine justice, indicating that He suffered the penalty that we deserved. Such clarity in Scripture leaves no doubt about His role as our substitute.
