How do we know that Jesus was our Substitute?

Answered in 2 sources

The substitutionary work of Christ is affirmed in Scripture, particularly in 2 Corinthians 5:21, where it states He was made sin for us.

We know Christ was our Substitute because the Scriptures clearly state that He was made sin for us who knew no sin. This doctrine of substitution is central to the gospel, emphasizing that Jesus took our place on the cross, bearing the full weight of our sins and the wrath of God. By being forsaken by the Father, He fully identified with our human condition and the consequences of our iniquity, providing a complete atonement. His sacrifice was not just a mere act but a profound exchange where our sins were imputed to Him, and His righteousness is imputed to believers, as noted in 2 Corinthians 5:21.
