How do we know that John 14:13-14 applies to us today?

Answered in 1 source

While John 14:13-14 was directed to the apostles, its principles extend to all who believe and rely on Christ.

John 14:13-14 specifically addresses the apostles as Jesus prepares to leave them. However, the underlying principles of asking in faith for the furtherance of the gospel can be seen as applicable to all believers. The same spirit that guided the apostles in their mission now guides us; we are encouraged to ask God for what we need to fulfill our role in His kingdom. The emphasis is not on personal desires but on requests for strength, mercy, and opportunities to serve Christ and His community.
