How do we know that law and grace cannot be mixed?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible explicitly states that law and grace cannot coexist; salvation is solely based on grace through faith in Christ, not on our works (John 1:14, Galatians 2:16).

In John 1:14 and Galatians 2:16, we find that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ and that justification cannot be achieved through the works of the law. The law demands absolute perfection and offers no grace; it simply states, 'Do this and live, or do not and die.' When we attempt to mix our works with God's grace, we nullify His grace, as true salvation hinges entirely on Christ's accomplished work. The testimony of Scripture consistently affirms that our attempts to earn favor through law-keeping undermine the Gospel. Thus, it is vital for believers to understand that salvation is a gift to be received, not a reward for efforts, preserving the purity and totality of God's grace.
