How do we know that love is the fulfillment of the law?

Answered in 1 source

Love fulfills the law by guiding our actions and intentions toward others and God.

The law is rooted in the character of God, and it can be summed up in the command to love. In Romans 13:10, Paul states, 'Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.' This means that if we genuinely love others, our actions will naturally align with the moral requirements of the law. Jesus also emphasized this principle when He stated that all the law and the prophets hang on love (Matthew 22:40). Thus, love serves as both the impetus for obedience and the standard that reflects the true intent of God’s commandments.
