How do we know that man is a fallen creature?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible clearly states that all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

Scripture describes the condition of mankind using phrases like 'There is none righteous, no, not one' (Psalm 14:3) and asserts that through Adam's sin, death entered the world and spread to all men (Romans 5:12). This means humanity is not merely flawed, but fundamentally opposed to God's holiness (Romans 8:6-7). The lack of goodness in human nature is evident, affirming the teaching that all require divine mercy and salvation, as reflective in the fall of man documented throughout the Bible.
