How do we know that marriage represents Christ's relationship with the church?

Answered in 1 source

Marriage symbolizes Christ's covenant with His church, illustrating sacrificial love and commitment.

The bond of marriage is fundamentally connected to the relationship between Christ and His church. In Scripture, Paul explicitly states that the relationship between a husband and wife should echo the relationship of Christ to His church (Ephesians 5:25). This comparison emphasizes that just as husbands are to love their wives sacrificially, as Christ loves His church, so marriage reflects the divine commitment and faithfulness God has toward His people. Moreover, when Christ took His bride, the church, He accepted the burden of her sin, just as in marriage, the husband assumes responsibility for his wife. This deeply spiritual understanding of marriage should guide Christians in how they conduct their relationships, viewing it not just as a social construct but as a God-given reflection of gospel truth.
