How do we know that mercy is available for sinners?

Answered in 1 source

Mercy is available to those who confess and forsake their sins, as promised in Scripture.

The promise of mercy is clearly outlined in Proverbs 28:13, which assures us that those who confess and forsake their sins will receive mercy from God. This theme is consistent throughout Scripture. For example, 1 John 1:9 states, 'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.' The availability of mercy is not based on human merit but on the sovereign grace of God, who declares in His word that He will be merciful to whom He will be merciful. Therefore, true acknowledgement of our sins leads to the assurance that mercy is always extended to the repentant heart.
