How do we know that only the righteous can be heard by God in prayer?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that God hears the prayer of the righteous, as seen in Proverbs 15:29.

In Proverbs 15:29, it is stated that 'The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.' This passage underscores the principle that God’s ear is attuned to those who have humbled themselves and recognized their need for His grace. Those who have not submitted to Christ remain in their wickedness, thus distanced from God. The righteousness that makes prayer acceptable to God can only be found through Jesus Christ, who alone offers the perfect fulfillment of God's law and the means of reconciliation. This deep reliance on Christ showcases the heart of true prayer.
