How do we know that our profession of faith is true?

Answered in 2 sources

A true profession of faith is evidenced by love for others, as stated in 1 John 2:9-10, where loving one's brother signifies being in the light.

1 John 2:9-10 provides a clear test of the authenticity of one’s faith: 'He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light.' This passage reveals that love for fellow believers is a vital sign of genuine faith. A profession of faith not backed by love indicates that the individual may still be in darkness rather than walking in the light of knowing Christ. The transformative grace of God not only brings about personal forgiveness but also compels believers to exhibit love towards others, which is a natural outworking of being united in Christ.
