How do we know that our religious acts can be sinful?

Answered in 1 source

Religious acts can be sinful when they are motivated by a desire for recognition rather than obedience and love for God.

We know that religious acts can be sinful when they become a means of self-glorification rather than true worship of God. This sermon highlights the sinfulness of relying on appearances and rituals, such as fasting for the sake of public recognition. When individuals perform religious actions simply to be seen and validated, they miss the true essence of worship. The Lord requires a heart that genuinely seeks to honor Him, as seen in Matthew 7:21-23, where Jesus points out those who did mighty works in His name yet were ultimately rejected because their motives were not aligned with true faith and love.
