How do we know that preachers are called by God?

Answered in 1 source

Preachers are called by God, not by human approval or education, as affirmed in Romans 1:1.

In sovereign grace theology, it is critical to understand that God's calling supersedes any human qualifications or accolades. Paul indicates in Romans 1:1 that he was 'called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.' This means that a preacher's legitimacy comes from God's sovereign call rather than formal training or popularity. If a man is not called by God, no amount of education or skill will suffice, and he should not preach. Hence, preachers must be under the divine compulsion and grace to fulfill their role.
