How do we know that preaching and teaching are essential for churches?

Answered in 1 source

The Scriptures affirm that preaching the gospel and teaching believers are necessary for spiritual growth and for establishing a strong church.

In Acts 14:21, it is recorded that as Paul and Barnabas preached the gospel and taught many, they established a pattern for church ministry that includes both preaching and teaching. Preaching serves to declare the truth of the gospel authoritatively and to call for a response to Jesus Christ, while teaching helps deepen understanding and nurture ongoing spiritual growth. Without this tandem of preaching and teaching, believers may not mature in their faith, leading to deficiencies in their spiritual walk.
