How do we know that preaching is effective in bringing people to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Preaching is effective because it relies on the power of God to call His elect to Himself through the proclamation of the Gospel.

The effectiveness of preaching comes from the assurance that God actively works through the proclamation of His Word. The servant in Genesis 24 illustrates this, as he is tasked with not only seeking a bride but also trusting that God will guide the process. Romans 10:14-15 reminds us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. As preachers faithfully declare the Gospel, the Holy Spirit works in the hearts of those being reached. This reliance on God’s power is key; the results of preaching are not determined by the evangelist’s skill but by God’s will, affirming that when the Gospel is faithfully preached, it will not return void (Isaiah 55:11).
