How do we know that regeneration is necessary to come to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Regeneration is necessary because a person is spiritually dead in trespasses and sins and cannot seek God without divine intervention (Ephesians 2:1).

Regeneration is critical for coming to Christ as it transforms a spiritually dead person into a new creation capable of seeking and following Him. Ephesians 2:1 highlights our condition before regeneration: 'And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.' This underscores that left to ourselves, we cannot initiate a true desire or capability to come to Christ. It is God's grace that regenerates our hearts and enables us to respond to the gospel. In this way, regeneration is a transforming work of the Holy Spirit, making the heart alive to the beauty and worth of Christ.
