How do we know that sacrifices in the Old Testament could not take away sins?

Hebrews 10:4 asserts that it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. This passage highlights the insufficiency of Old Testament sacrifices, which were repeated annually and could not provide true atonement. Instead, these sacrifices served as reminders of sin, pointing to the need for a perfect sacrifice.
