How do we know that salvation is by faith and not works?

Answered in 2 sources

Scripture clearly states that salvation is a gift from God received through faith, not by our works.

The doctrine of justification by faith is vital to Reformed theology. Romans 9:32 illustrates that seeking righteousness through works leads to failure, while salvation is granted through faith in Christ's completed work. When we rely on our own works, we fall short of God's standards, but faith in Christ's imputed righteousness secures our salvation. Furthermore, Philippians 1:6 assures us that God will complete the good work He began in us, solidifying the belief that our salvation hinges on His grace rather than our performance.
