How do we know that salvation is by God's choice and not by human effort?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible confirms that salvation is by God's sovereign choice, as it teaches that we are chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.

In Ephesians 1:4-5, the Apostle Paul writes, 'According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.' This points to the doctrine of divine election, where God's will, not human decision, initiates our salvation. It underscores that we do not earn or deserve salvation through our actions or choices; rather, it is a gift of grace awarded by God. Recognizing this liberates us from the weight of self-reliance, encouraging us to rely on the complete sufficiency of Christ and His finished work for our redemption.
