How do we know that salvation is by grace, not works?

Answered in 1 source

Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, as emphasized throughout the New Testament.

The New Testament clearly articulates that salvation is a gift of grace, not a result of human works. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, 'For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.' This teaching counters the belief that one's actions or adherence to the law can achieve righteousness. The rich young ruler believed his adherence to the law could inherit eternal life, but Jesus highlighted that true salvation requires recognizing our inability to earn it and relying entirely on Christ’s completed work at Calvary. Therefore, it is God's grace that sustains our salvation, as highlighted in Romans 5:20.
