How do we know that saving faith is real?

Answered in 1 source

We know saving faith is real when it acknowledges our total inability and holds onto Christ as its sole object.

Saving faith can be recognized by its acknowledgment of the believer's complete inability to save oneself and its reliance on Christ alone for salvation. The apostles, despite their initial misunderstandings, were genuine believers who expressed their faith in asking Jesus, 'Lord, increase our faith' (Luke 17:5). This plea demonstrates their recognition that faith is a gift from God and not a product of their own efforts. Real faith is precious; it sees its relationship with Christ as vital and irreplaceable. Just like the mustard seed, even the smallest amount of true faith, when placed in the mighty object of Christ, can effect profound spiritual realities in life and service. True saving faith, therefore, grows in appreciation and value, desiring to be strengthened and deepened.
