How do we know that seeking God's face is different from seeking His hand?

Answered in 1 source

Seeking God's face involves desiring His presence and relationship, while seeking His hand is focused on His blessings and assistance.

The distinction between seeking God's face and seeking His hand is profoundly important in understanding the nature of our relationship with Him. Seeking His hand refers to asking for His help in times of need—whether it be healing, provision, or guidance. In contrast, seeking His face denotes a pursuit of intimacy and knowledge of who God is, aligning with the understanding of His character and presence. This is beautifully illustrated in John 6:26, where Jesus points out that many sought Him not for His miracles or true conviction, but merely for the physical benefits they could receive. True believers are called to seek not just what God can do for them, but who He is, as seen in Psalm 105:4, which states to seek the Lord and His strength, and to seek His face always.
