How do we know that serving others is serving God?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus teaches that when we serve the least of His brethren, we serve Him directly (Matthew 25:40).

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus states, 'Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' This profound principle reveals that our actions toward others, especially those in need, are fundamentally acts of service toward Christ Himself. Understanding this connection deepens our sense of duty and love in serving others, as it reflects our love for God. The call to serve is not merely about fulfilling obligations but is an extension of our devotion and love for the Lord, showing that our faith truly manifests through how we treat those around us.
