How do we know that sin is the cause of death?

Answered in 1 source

The Apostle Paul states in Romans 5:12 that sin entered the world through Adam, leading to death for all men because all have sinned.

In Romans 5, Paul establishes a clear connection between sin and death, asserting that through Adam's transgression, death became a universal reality. He explains that death reigns because of sin, which serves as the just penalty prescribed by God. This means that even if individuals might have not sinned in the same way as Adam, they are still affected by the original sin due to their union with him. Hence, the assertion that 'in Adam all die' reflects the theological understanding of original sin and its ramifications for all of humanity (1 Corinthians 15:22). Consequently, sin is the ultimate cause of death, both spiritual and physical.
