How do we know that suffering has purpose according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that suffering serves to strengthen our faith and produces a greater eternal glory.

The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:17 describes our present afflictions as light and momentary, asserting that they work for us an eternal weight of glory beyond comparison. This indicates that the suffering we endure has a divine purpose, drawing us closer to God and helping to refine our faith. Moreover, afflictions remind us to look past the temporal and focus on the eternal realities of our faith. As God orchestrates these trials, He uses them to conform us more to the image of Christ, ensuring that we recognize our dependence on Him and our hope in His eternal promises.
