How do we know that the church is one body under Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The church is deemed one body under Christ based on the theological understanding of Christ as the federal head of the church, representing and unifying all believers.

The unity of the church is central to the teaching of scripture. In 1 Peter 3, believers are reminded that despite their diverse backgrounds, they are all of one mind in Christ. This concept is echoed in Ephesians 4, where Paul states that the church is one body with one Spirit, called to the same hope and faith. The federal headship of Christ means that believers are united in His righteousness and purpose, having been chosen in Him before the foundation of the world. As the body functions under a single head, the church operates under the leadership and sovereignty of Christ, affirming its unified identity and purpose as His people.
