How do we know that the gifts of the Spirit have ceased?

Answered in 1 source

The gifts of the Spirit were necessary for the early church but ceased once the New Testament was completed.

The early disciples were endowed with miraculous gifts to authenticate their message in a time when the Scriptures were not yet complete. Passages like Hebrews 2:3-4 indicate that God bore witness to the apostles through signs and wonders, establishing their authority to preach the gospel. However, as the church matured and the full revelation of Scripture was established, these gifts were no longer necessary. Historical evidence shows that following the apostolic age, these gifts largely diminished and are not observed in the same measure today.
