How do we know that the gospel is effective?

Answered in 3 sources

The gospel is effective because it is God's word and will not return void; it transforms lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The effectiveness of the gospel is rooted in the promise that God's word will accomplish its purpose. In Isaiah 55:11, we are assured that God's word does not return void but fulfills what it is intended to do. This means that every time the gospel is preached, it makes a significant impact on the hearts of those who hear it, either as a savor of life or death (2 Corinthians 2:16). The varying responses to the gospel, as illustrated in the parable of the sower, demonstrate how some receive it with joy, while others may reject it. Ultimately, it is the work of the Holy Spirit that applies this effective word to the hearts of the elect, leading to true transformation and regeneration.
