How do we know that the Holy Spirit dwells in us?

Answered in 1 source

The presence of the Holy Spirit in believers is evidenced by their changed lives and the fruit of the Spirit.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a foundational truth in Scripture, particularly in Romans 8:9-10, where it states that if the Spirit of Christ does not dwell in you, you do not belong to Him. Conversely, if the Spirit dwells in you, your life will reflect this through a new way of walking that is not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. This change manifests as a desire to pursue holiness, and the assurance that the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are indeed children of God. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit helps in sanctification, guiding believers to mortify the deeds of the body, leading them into a continual growth in grace.
