How do we know that the hope of being like Christ is true?

Answered in 1 source

We know this hope is true because it is grounded in the love of God as expressed in 1 John 3:1.

The certainty of the believer's hope lies not in ourselves but in the immense love the Father has bestowed upon us, as noted in 1 John 3:1. This divine love—which is beyond comprehension—grants us the title of sons of God. Because God, in His sovereign grace, has called us into this relationship, we can trust that He will fulfill His promise to make us like Christ. The basis of our hope is the unchanging character of God, who does not lie and cannot fail; thus, the transformation into Christ’s likeness is assured for all who believe in Him. This confidence and expectation should prompt purifying actions in our lives as we look forward to that glorious day.
