How do we know that the love of God is for the chosen?

The love of God for His chosen is vividly illustrated in the work of Christ, who sacrificed Himself for sinners. In Revelation 1:5, we see that Jesus, who is 'Him that loved us,' washed us from our sins in His own blood. This act of cleansing signifies His specific love for those whom the Father has given Him.
