How do we know that the merit of Christ is essential for prayer?

Answered in 1 source

The merit of Christ is essential for prayer as it is through His blood and righteousness that our prayers are made acceptable to God.

According to Revelation 8:3, the prayers of saints ascend with incense, symbolizing the merit of Christ. This means that without the blood and righteousness of Jesus, our prayers are not presentable before God. Ephesians 2:13-18 confirms that we are brought near to God through the blood of Christ, solidifying the notion that our access to the Father and the acceptance of our prayers depend entirely on Christ's mediatorial work. It is only through Him, the one mediator, that we can rightly approach the throne of grace and have our prayers acknowledged.
