How do we know that the preaching of the Word is essential for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Salvation is achieved through the preaching of God's Word, as it is the means by which the Holy Spirit reveals truth to sinners.

According to Scripture, the means by which God brings salvation to sinners is through the preaching of His Word. Paul emphasizes this in 1 Corinthians 14, arguing the importance of clear proclamation so that the message of God's holiness, human sin, and the redemptive work of Christ can be understood. Without a clear declaration of these truths, worship lacks purpose and effectiveness (1 Corinthians 14:6, 19). When God's Spirit opens the heart of a sinner to understand and embrace the Gospel message, that is the moment of spiritual awakening, resulting in true conversion. Therefore, the preaching of God’s Word is not merely an act of religious duty, but the divinely ordained means used by God to convey His grace and truth to the elect.
