How do we know that the rejection of Christ was prophesied?

Answered in 1 source

The rejection of Christ is foreshadowed in the Old Testament and explicitly recounted in the Gospels, illustrating man's inherent enmity toward God.

The rejection of Christ was foretold in numerous Old Testament prophecies. For instance, Isaiah speaks of a Messiah who would be despised and rejected by men (Isaiah 53:3). In the Gospel of Matthew, the reaction of King Herod and those in Jerusalem to Jesus' birth reflects this rejection. Despite their knowledge of the Scriptures indicating the Messiah's coming (Matthew 2:4-6), they were troubled and sought to destroy Him rather than rejoice in His arrival. This aligns with the overall biblical narrative that depicts humanity's sinful nature, which opposes and seeks to destroy the divine fulfillment of God's promises through Christ.
