How do we know that the word of God changes lives?

Answered in 1 source

The word of God is the instrument by which individuals are quickened and brought to salvation.

In Matthew 13, Jesus teaches that the word of God is powerful and can effectually change lives. It is described as the 'seed' that can bring forth life when it falls on good ground, representing those who receive it with a sincere and honest heart. Additionally, the commentary highlights that regeneration happens through hearing and understanding the word of God, as it is the means by which believers are born again. Without this work of the Holy Spirit accompanying the word, no genuine change can occur in a person’s life.
