How do we know that traditions can be dangerous?

Answered in 1 source

Traditions can be dangerous when they lead individuals to invalidate God's commandments in favor of human laws.

In the account of Matthew 15, Jesus directly addresses the danger of elevating human traditions above divine commandments. The Pharisees' traditions were criticized because they led to disobedience to God's commands, showing an inherent tendency within religious practices to overshadow divine authority. By placing human inventions on par with scripture, believers risk compromising core truths of the faith. History has shown us that traditions can quickly become rules that foster spiritual pride or legalism, thus hindering sincere relationships with God. Vigilance is necessary to ensure that human customs do not usurp God’s Word.
