How do we know that we are free from the penalty of sin?

Answered in 1 source

We are free from the penalty of sin because of Christ's sacrificial death for His people.

The apostle Paul asserts that the wages of sin is death, but through Christ's death, believers are freed from this penalty (Romans 6:23). Christ bore the full weight of the punishment for sin on behalf of His elect, thus satisfying divine justice. As a result, believers can stand assured that they are no longer under condemnation, as Romans 8:1 declares, 'There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.' This freedom is secured not by our merits but solely through the sovereign grace of God.
