How do we know that we are in God?

Answered in 1 source

We know we are in God by keeping His commandments, which indicates true fellowship with Him.

The assurance of being 'in God' is provided through our adherence to His commandments, as stated in 1 John 2:3-6. John asserts that genuine believers express their knowledge of God through love for His word and a desire to abide in His truth. If one professes to know God yet does not keep His commandments, that person is declared a liar. Therefore, true knowledge of God is evidenced by a heartfelt commitment to honor His instructions and a longing for alignment with His will. This reflects a transformative relationship with Christ, who empowers believers to live according to His word.
